Studies had shown that high DENV load infection altered the junctional integrity of brain and lung microvascular endothelial cell (MEC) lines during early infection (24 h post-infection), with the differential expression of adherent proteins, junctional proteins, gap proteins, and adhesive molecules, of which VE-cadherin was up-regulated within the first few hours of infection with a high MOI of DENV, while the expression slowly decreased later (Soe et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene CDH5 and infection.
