SIK1 is found in the nuclear and cytoplasmic compartments of resting mouse adrenocortical tumor cells, and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ATCH) stimulation induces the auto-phosphorylation at the Ser577 phosphorylation site, which causes nuclear export, and reduces the inhibitory effects of SIK1 on cAMP-responsive element (CRE)-associated gene expression (9).
