Multiple clinical trials investigating different classes of CF medications, such as CFTR modulators (Davies et al., 2013; Ratjen et al., 2018) dornase alfa (Fuchs et al., 1994), hypertonic saline (Elkins and Dentice, 2020), and tobramycin (Ramsey et al., 1999) have shown a reduction in pulmonary exacerbations compared with placebo. This evidence concerns the gene CFTR and cystic fibrosis.
