Apigenin is a natural flavonoid that has been recently reported to exhibit a dose-dependent anti-proliferative properties against CRC cells via the induction of apoptosis as evidenced by MAPK activation, PARP cleavage, suppression of the anti-apoptotic maker proteins Bcl-xL and Mcl-1 and inhibition of the phosphorylatic activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) [49,50]. The gene discussed is MCL1; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
