Given the critical role of LRRK2 in excitatory glutamatergic synapses (Parisiadou et al., 2014; Volta et al., 2017; Matikainen-Ankney et al., 2016), a more nuanced understanding of LRRK2-mediated synaptic alterations should facilitate the search for more targeted PD therapies.
