The proportion of patients > 70 years old (p < 0.001), with a prior cardiovascular event (p < 0.001), heart failure (p = 0.007) or COPD (p = 0.002), and higher concentrations of plasma glucose (p < 0.001), creatinine (p = 0.010), CRP (p = 0.043) and venous lactate (p < 0.001) increased with increasing numbers of cardiometabolic conditions, and with a decreasing PaO2/FIO2 ratio (p = 0.002) (Table 2).
