Interestingly, Notch target genes were shown to be elevated in mammospheres derived from various breast cancer cell lines [89]; and ALDEFLOUR+ breast cancer cells had increased mammosphere-forming efficiency (MFE), compared to ALDEFLOUR− cells, which correlated with an increased expression in Notch2 mRNA, a known promoter of mammary stem cell self-renewal [90]. This evidence concerns the gene NOTCH2 and breast carcinoma.
