The five strains of T. mentagrophytes characterised in this paper were screened for the squalene epoxidase (SQLE) mutation as it has been demonstrated that zoophilic strains of T. mentagrophytes could present some resistance to terbinafine, which is the main treatment of tinea capitis in Belgium [18,19]. The gene discussed is SQLE; the disease is dermatophytosis of scalp or beard.
