In AD, Aβ oligomers and fibrils are able to bind to microglia via receptors (CD36, TLR4/6) resulting in activation of the microglia which start to produce inflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, IL-12 and IL-18 [59]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and Alzheimer disease.
