A previous study using the Ccl2(−/−)/Cx3cr1(−/−) mouse exhibiting focal deep retinal lesions, abnormal RPE, photoreceptor degeneration, and A2E accumulation, demonstrated that a high n-3 fatty acid diet slowed the progression of AMD-like retinal lesions and reduced retinal TNF-α and IL-6 expression levels [46].
