Cardiac hypertrophy is accompanied by reactivation of a set of cardiac foetal genes, including atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP, nppa), brain natriuretic peptide (BNP, nppb) and β‐myosin heavy chain (β‐MHC), as well as an increase in cell size and protein synthesis, suggesting that molecular events controlling heart development are redeployed to regulate hypertrophic growth.3 The gene discussed is NPPA; the disease is cardiac hypertrophy.
