Interestingly, similar to TMBIM5, KO/silencing of CHCHD2 also results in a reduced mitochondrial oxygen consumption and ATP production in yeast [59], flies, and human cell lines [58], further pointing toward a cooperation of these two proteins and a possible role for TMBIM5 in the pathology of Parkinson’s disease.
