Further evidence for a protective effect of BAFF in CLL is provided by two studies in mice: Enzler et al. employed Eμ-TCL1xBAFF-Tg CLL mice presenting with high expression levels of BAFF and used BAFFR-Fc and BCMA-Fc fusion proteins to demonstrate that BAFF neutralization reduces leukemic burden in these animals [34,50]. The gene discussed is TNFSF13B; the disease is B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
