LAIR1 and systemic lupus erythematosus: Since SLE is a known chronic inflammatory disease and the soluble mediators present in SLE patients' serum are able to induce and perpetuate an inflammatory response (26–28), we next made use of the model from Rodriguez-Pla et al. [GSE46920] (29), in which HC monocytes cultured in the presence of SLE serum, exhibited higher LAIR1 levels when compared to HC serum-treated monocytes (Figure 2B).
