Chemerin is an adipokine produced from mature adipocytes.4 It is a pro-inflammatory cytokine, and its levels in serum are found to be raised in individuals with obesity and cardiovascular diseases and thus has shown an association with insulin resistance, metabolic disorders, and CVDs.5-7 Leptin is a small peptide produced by adipocytes and was found to be related with coronary artery disease (CAD), atherosclerosis, endothelial dysfunction, and MI.8,9 Leptin is considered a pro-inflammatory adipokine and its level is associated with the metabolic risk factors.10 This evidence concerns the gene LEP and metabolic disease.
