MYC and cancer: eIF4E is overexpressed in cancer and exerts oncogenic potential by regulating mRNAs related to proliferation (c-Myc, CDK2, and Cyclin D1), metastasis (MMP9 and heparanase), loss of apoptosis (Mcl-1, Bcl-2, and survivin), and angiogenesis (VEGF and FGF2) [119].
