We also demonstrated that these hypermethylated profiles in aged tissue were enriched in gene ontology pathways including, ‘regulation of muscle system process’ and KEGG pathways ‘pathways in cancer’, a pathway that incorporates previously well described molecular pathways in the regulation of skeletal muscle mass such as; focal adhesion, MAPK signaling, PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling, p53 signaling, Jak-STAT signaling, TGF-beta and Notch signaling, as well as the other significantly enriched pathways of ‘rap1 signaling’, ‘axon guidance’, and ‘hippo signaling’. The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is cancer.
