While no differences in fasting glucose levels were observed between the groups, the obese women displayed higher systemic inflammation (as measured by c-reactive protein), hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance (as measured by homeostasis model for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), increased leptin and reduced adiponectin concentrations) and reduced insulin sensitivity (SI) compared to normal weight women. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is hyperinsulinism.
