Causal reasoning indicates that the increased levels of zonulin as well as lowered IgM to natural OSEs and lowered PON1-gene associated paraoxonase activity may play a role in the breakdown of gut and blood brain barriers, bacterial translocation, immune activation, and oxidative stress, which together may induce neurocognitive toxicity and thus the phenome of schizophrenia [1,2,3,4,5,9,10,11,12,13,14].
