Wistar rats that received orally administered taurine (100 mM) 30 days following coronary artery occlusion-induced ischemia had significantly smaller myocardial infarct size, elevated levels of superoxide dismutase, and decreased inflammatory markers of interleukin (IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα), compared to controls [33].
