In this regard, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), one of the most prevalent neurodegenerative conditions, is characterized by two main aberrant structures, namely senile plaques (extracellular deposits composed of beta-amyloid (Aβ) peptide oligomers) and neurofibrillary tangles (intraneuronal aggregates composed of tau protein). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
