DMN cortical regions overlap with late stage atrophy signatures of AD (Dickerson et al., 2009), sites of high amyloid burden (Mormino et al., 2011, Buckner et al., 2009), and a posterior subset of DMN regions co-locate with patterns of neurofibrillary tau accumulation (Johnson et al., 2016, Franzmeier et al., 2019, Ossenkoppele et al., 2019, Li et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
