Another study demonstrated that gambogenic acid (1.5–12 μM) induced autophagy in A549 and HeLa cells and in a xenograft tumor model (16 mg/kg, i.v., twice a week for 3 weeks) as shown by the formation of vacuoles, the increase in LC3 II, the activation of Beclin 1 and the decreased phosphorylation of p70S6K, thus indicating the inhibition of the mTOR activity.
