Excluding one case, all 16 desmoplastic trichoepitheliomas were immunoreactive to PHLDA1 with more than 80% of the cells stained, while all 14 MBCCs were PHLDA1 negative except for ulcerated tumors. In the latter, the near-ulcer tumor islands were PHLDA1 positive, while the deeper portions of the tumor remained immunonegative. This evidence concerns the gene PHLDA1 and trichoblastoma.
