Combined with the above‐mentioned in vitro data indicating that a reduction in SOX10 reduces LESC colony formation and survival (Figure 1C,D), it hence appears that down‐regulation of SOX10 contributes to a disruption of the niche for LESCs, which eventually leads to the reduction in the number of LESCs and to corneal epithelial dystrophy.
