We have shown earlier that in slowly developing diabetes, induced by a small dose of alloxan, the most significant activation of several signaling cascades, including the interferon regulatory factor 3, Toll-like receptor 4, and NF-κB pathways, as well as an increase in the expression of heat shock protein 70 in splenic cells, was observed only at the prediabetes stage but not in advanced diabetes [20]. This evidence concerns the gene IRF3 and diabetes mellitus.
