Thus, knowing that genome-wide association studies have revealed several genetic variants related to compromised β-cell function to be associated with type 2 DM (18, 19), as well as the extra layer of complexity in different ethnic populations (20), this inspired us to investigate if genetic variants of SERPINB1 are associated with diabetes risk, glycemic control, and β-cell dysfunction in Egyptian type 2 diabetic patients.
