It was claimed that in Africa, baseline sCD14 plasma levels were lower, and LBP similar, in 86 HIV-uninfected donors from Uganda (who seroconverted and were studied longitudinally) compared to HIV-uninfected donors from the US (median 53 years old, 62.5% African-Americans, 50% female), and that they did not change significantly during HIV-1 infection (49). This evidence concerns the gene LBP and HIV-1 infection.
