BMP4 decreases during late childhood/young adulthood and then increases again during physiological aging (Meyers et al., 2016), as well as in pathological conditions including metabolic syndrome (Son et al., 2011), leukemia (Voeltzel et al., 2018) or bone fractures (van Baardewijk et al., 2013). The gene discussed is BMP4; the disease is metabolic syndrome.
