Although epileptic seizures are one of the diagnostic criteria of limbic encephalitis (Graus et al., 2016), none were observed in the cases described in this review; however, this is not surprising since seizures in anti-LGI1 encephalitis can sometimes escape detection and a clear neurological presentation of a case would have led to exclusion from the study since we were looking at primary psychiatric/neurocognitive presentations of AE. This evidence concerns the gene LGI1 and viral encephalitis.
