In a recent screen for compounds with SENP2 inhibitory activity, 6-thioguanine, which increases SUMO1-ylation and SUMO2/3-ylation levels, and the compound isoprenaline, which increases SUMO2/3-ylation levels, were found to protect SH-SY5Y cells from oxygen and glucose deprivation, an in vitro model of ischemia [60]. The gene discussed is SENP2; the disease is ischemia.
