Degranulation is also impaired, with CF neutrophils releasing more primary granule contents, such as NE [76], and fewer secondary and tertiary granule contents, such as the immunomodulating, antimicrobial glycoprotein lactoferrin [69], which may account for some of the lung tissue remodeling and altered antimicrobial abilities displayed by CF neutrophils.
