Based on this observation, it was speculated that TRPV1 functions as a tumor suppressor: it blocks skin carcinogenesis via down-regulating epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression by Cbl (ubiquitylation enzyme)-mediated EGFR ubiquitination, and subsequently its degradation through the lysosomal pathway.
