The 17q locus comprises 17 asthma-associated SNPs, which span multiple candidate genes located in three regions divided into the core (IKZF3, ZPBP2, GSDMB, and ORMDL3), distal (GSDMA) and proximal regions (ERBB2 and PGAP3). The core region is strongly associated with early onset asthma [26], and the proximal region is associated with asthma in adults [27,28]. Here, ZPBP2 is linked to asthma.
