In various cancer cells, the YKL-40 signaling cascades are triggered by the membrane receptors such as syndecan-1, integrin αvβ5, VEGF receptor 2, and RAGE, leading to the increased expression levels of VEGF, MMP9, CCL2, and CXCL2 through FAK and ERK1/2-MAPK activity which result in the elevation of angiogenesis and tumor proliferation [7,8,9]. This evidence concerns the gene CHI3L1 and cancer.
