Other candidates genes include transforming growth factor beta-induced (TGFBI) or zinc-finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1), involved in corneal dystrophies (Guan et al., 2012; Lechner et al., 2013) or COL4A1, COL4A2, COL4A2, and COL4A1 (Stabuc-Silih et al., 2009; Karolak et al., 2011), encoding collagen proteins responsible for the proper function of the cornea. Here, COL4A1 is linked to corneal dystrophy.
