The role of cPLA2 in diabetes has been investigated in relation to diabetic retinopathy, where increased glucose concentrations contribute to elevated inflammation and aberrant angiogenesis; however, the impact of epigenetic modifications on cPLA2 levels, and subsequent COX-2/PGE2 production, has not been previously demonstrated to our knowledge (55). The gene discussed is PLA2G4A; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
