Consistent with our findings, a positive association between the UGT1A1*28 allele (homo-/heterozygous for higher bilirubin) and CRC risk in men (OR = 1.97, 95% CI = 1.22–3.19; P = 0.005), but not in women (P = 0.26) was reported in a Macedonian retrospective case-control study [23]. Here, UGT1A1 is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
