After having demonstrated that mucosal administration of insulin is safe, the GPPAD-POInT (Global Platform for the Prevention of Autoimmune Diabetes Primary Oral Insulin Trial) study was initiated to test whether daily administration of oral insulin, from age 4.0 months to 7.0 months until age 36.0 months to children who are genetically at risk will reduce the beta-cell autoantibodies and T1D development. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
