The progression of aortic dilation with age is thought to be related to a higher collagen to elastin ratio, along with increased stiffness and pulse pressure.[8,11,32–34] For this reason, several authors reported aortic reference values evaluated in selected patients stratified, for example, by age and sex.[1,6,7,10,13–16,20–22,35] Nevertheless, the analyzed cohorts often comprise healthy subjects without coronary artery disease or cardiovascular risk factors. This evidence concerns the gene ELN and coronary artery disorder.
