Consistent with previous studies 5, 37, 39, patients with myocardial injury had elevated levels of hs-CRP and lower levels of lymphocytes, CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, compared to those without myocardial injury, suggesting myocardial injury may predispose COVID-19 patients to poor prognosis, partially through increased systemic inflammation and dysregulation of the immune system 40. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and COVID-19.
