Upregulation of genes associated with oxidative phosphorylation in a mouse Prkn−/− model (Giguère et al., 2018) and a zebrafish dj-1−/− model of PD has been described (Edson et al., 2019), while dysregulation of genes associated with metabolism is consistent with a neurodegenerative state in PD (Giguère et al., 2018; Shi et al., 2015) as well as Alzheimer's disease (Demetrius et al., 2015). Here, PRKN is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
