A healthier profile was observed in cases compared with controls for known cardiovascular risk factors such as BMI, total cholesterol, LDLc, and HDLc due to the fact that most of the CAD patients were already under statin therapy, which acts as a competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, decreasing cholesterol biosynthesis and serum LDLc, and also triglyceride levels [19,20]. The gene discussed is HMGCR; the disease is coronary artery disorder.
