Some studies give evidence for a tumour suppressive role for the desmosome proteins, such as in lung cancer [5], oral intraepithelial neoplasms and cancer [6–8], head and neck cancer [9], prostate cancer [10], and gastric cancer [11], and the expression of DSG1 and DSG2 is low, which correlates with longer patient survival and/or inhibited tumour progression. This evidence concerns the gene DSG2 and lung carcinoma.
