In humans, several studies have shown associations of single nucleotide polymorphisms located within the OAS genes and increased risk of infection by viruses of the genus Flavivirus, including West Nile virus, dengue virus and tick-borne encephalitis virus (Lim et al., 2009; Barkhash et al., 2010; Thamizhmani and Vijayachari, 2014).
