A previous study has associated the 5LO gene (also called Alox5) as a candidate gene for obesity and low bone mass when 5LOKO (in the C57Bl/6 background) is subjected under long-term treatment with high fat diet (containing 45% fat by kcal and 3.0g of AA). Here, ALOX5 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
