P50 gating has gathered much attention as a potential endophenotype in part because of a genetic association with a polymorphism in the promotor region of the α7-nicotinic cholinergic receptor gene (CHRNA7) (116), which was found to be more common in patients with schizophrenia than controls and associated with gating deficiency (117). This evidence concerns the gene CHRNA7 and schizophrenia.
