CXCL8 and viral infectious disease: Disease pathogenesis is likely complex, based on circumstantial associations of BA with viral infections (Mack, 2007), a toxin-associated BA-like condition in a regional population of Australian sheep (Lorent et al., 2015), an interleukin 8 (IL8)-predominant inflammatory signature in BA-affected human liver tissues (Honsawek et al., 2005), and multiple susceptibility genes identified in genome-wide association studies in BA (Ningappa et al., 2015).
