Several molecular mechanisms have been proposed to explain the influence of inflammation on cardiovascular disorders (Battistelli et al., 2019; Song and Li, 2019), including the formation of the NLRP3 inflammasome, which induces endothelial cell dysfunction and accelerates the progression of diabetes-related atherosclerosis (Eid et al., 2018; Zheng et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and diabetes mellitus.
