Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i), a novel class of oral hypoglycaemic medication, have been demonstrated to potentially reduce the risk of cardiovascular outcomes, especially heart failure (HF) and all-cause mortality, in several large placebo-controlled randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and meta-analyses [7–10]. This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and hydrops fetalis.
